VCT Americas Stage 2 opens a new Play-In route
VCT Americas Stage 2 sends four group teams directly to playoffs and the other eight into a Play-In with four Challengers representatives this season.
VCT Americas Stage 2 began on July 16 with 12 league teams competing for playoff position and places at VALORANT Champions Shanghai. The 2026 format sends four teams directly to the playoffs, while the other eight enter a Play-In alongside four Challengers representatives.
The season ends with the Americas finals in São Paulo from September 4–6. Riot says this will be the league’s first final outside Los Angeles.
VCT Americas Stage 2 rewards the top two in each group
The 12 teams are split into Alpha and Omega groups. The top two teams in each group skip the Play-In and advance directly to playoffs. Group winners receive a first-round bye, while second-place teams begin in the upper bracket’s first round.
Every other league team moves into the Play-In. Riot’s official Stage 2 guide confirms that four Challengers teams join them in a double-elimination bracket. Four of the 12 Play-In entrants advance.
The format gives tier-two teams a direct competitive test without erasing the value of league results. A strong group finish reduces the number of elimination matches and hides more of a team’s map pool before playoffs.
Four Champions Shanghai places are available
Americas has four places at Champions Shanghai. The Stage 2 champion and runner-up qualify through playoff placement, while the two remaining slots go to the highest teams in Championship Points that have not already qualified.
That creates two connected races. Teams must pursue the Stage 2 final while tracking the points table, and one result can affect several rivals. Preparation therefore includes both the next opponent and the qualification consequences of the bracket.
In matches, clean spacing remains one of the most repeatable ways to turn an opening duel into a round win. Our Valorant trade-spacing guide covers that structure, while the post-plant role map explains how teams can preserve an advantage after the spike goes down.
