The OpTic vs LOUD Masters Reykjavík 2022 final ended 3–0 on April 24. OpTic won two overtime maps before closing the series and became the first North American team to lift a VCT international trophy since Sentinels in 2021.

Road to the final

OpTic advanced from Group B and survived the lower bracket after losing to XERXIA. In the playoffs it defeated The Guard, DRX and ZETA DIVISION, with a loss to LOUD in the upper final. LOUD reached the grand final unbeaten after victories over Team Liquid, G2 Esports and OpTic.

OpTic vs LOUD Masters Reykjavik 2022 final: map-by-map recap

OpTic took Ascent 13–9, then survived overtime on Bind 14–12 and Breeze 15–13. The clean series score hides how close the final two maps were. LOUD repeatedly reached regulation winning positions, but OpTic defended the decisive rounds and prevented a fourth map.

The decisive pattern

The rematch changed because OpTic stayed composed when LOUD’s defensive reads narrowed the available space. FNS kept the team moving between pressure points, while yay supplied dependable opening and late-round value. OpTic also managed economy and ultimates well enough that overtime did not become a sequence of desperate buys.

Why the result still matters

The title became the defining international achievement of OpTic’s VALORANT roster and began a rivalry that continued through 2022. LOUD would answer later that year at Champions, but Reykjavík belongs to the North American lineup. The series also demonstrated why a 3–0 can contain two maps decided by the smallest possible margin.

Dmitri reviews games by tracing their complete loop: how a system is introduced, how it changes under pressure and whether it still produces interesting decisions after the novelty fades. He has a particular interest in RPG economies, tactical combat and performance problems that alter mechanical feel. Every verdict is written for a specific player rather than an imaginary universal audience.
