Liquid completed the first 3–0 grand-final sweep in The International history.

Team Liquid defeated Newbee 3–0 in The International 2017 grand final on August 12 in Seattle. It was the first clean sweep in a TI grand final and completed an exceptional lower-bracket recovery.

Road to the final

Liquid dropped into the lower bracket after losing to Invictus Gaming in the upper-bracket opener. From there, KuroKy’s team eliminated Team Secret, Team Empire, Virtus.pro, LGD.Forever Young and LGD Gaming. Newbee reached the final through the upper side and had not needed the same marathon on the closing day.

Liquid vs Newbee TI7 final: series recap

Liquid used flexible drafts and relentless lane pressure to prevent Newbee from controlling the pace. The European side won all three games, changing its cores and methods without giving the Chinese lineup a stable adaptation point. The 3–0 score was decisive even though individual fights remained technically demanding.

The decisive turn

The final was shaped by Liquid’s ability to convert early advantages without narrowing its draft. GH and MinD_ContRoL supplied initiation, MATUMBAMAN absorbed difficult assignments and Miracle- received the space to finish fights. Newbee repeatedly had to answer several threats with fewer safe areas to farm.

Why the result matters

Liquid became the first team to sweep a best-of-five TI final and earned the organization’s first Aegis. The run also remains a reference for lower-bracket resilience: the champion had to win multiple elimination series before meeting the rested upper-bracket winner.
