The NAVI vs EHOME International 2011 final ended 3–1 in Cologne, where Dota 2 was presented to a global competitive audience at Gamescom. NAVI became the first International champion and received the event’s $1 million top prize.
Road to the final
Sixteen invited teams played the event from August 17 to 21. NAVI moved through the winners’ side, while EHOME recovered through the lower bracket and defeated Scythe Gaming to reach the final. The format gave NAVI a one-game advantage for arriving from the upper bracket.
NAVI vs EHOME International 2011 final: map-by-map recap
With the advantage included, NAVI began one win ahead. EHOME took the first played game to level the final, but NAVI won the next two and completed the official 3–1 score. The compact series reflected a tournament where teams were learning a new game in public as well as playing for an unprecedented prize.
The decisive pattern
NAVI adapted more cleanly after EHOME’s answer. The draft and map decisions cannot be separated from the 2011 build, whose heroes, items and interface differed substantially from modern Dota 2. What survives on the record is the ability to reset after losing the opening played game.
Why the result still matters
The result created Dota 2’s first world champion before the game’s full public release. More importantly, the $1.6 million prize pool and Valve’s production established The International as an annual target. Later tournaments became larger, but their lineage begins with this 3–1 final.
