Darkest Dungeon has released The Fire’s Edge, its first new DLC since 2020. The expansion brings the Runaway and Duelist from Darkest Dungeon II into the original game and increases the roster cap by one slot for each new hero.

Darkest Dungeon: confirmed details

The Duelist changes ranks and maintains Riposte while switching between two stances. The Runaway uses Burn, a newly added combat mechanic for the original game. New Trinkets include charged limited effects and items that transform through use during expeditions.

What changes for players

Both heroes introduce mechanics that were not part of the original roster’s normal toolkit, creating new party and position choices. Three Hamlet Districts—Academie Duello, Craftworks and Archaeological Base Camp—add weekly heirlooms, Trinkets and hero damage benefits.

Timing and wider context

Red Hook says the additions are designed to be additive rather than changing existing heroes or enemies, reducing mod conflicts. An improved mod loader is in development, with an open beta and a follow-up release planned after launch.

The feature list and timing above reflect the developer’s announcement published on August 18, 2026. Future hotfixes can adjust balance or availability, so live values should be checked against the current client.

For Darkest Dungeon, the practical checkpoint is the live client: confirm the installed version, platform notes and regional rollout before relying on a scheduled feature. Store availability, maintenance windows and certification can create timing differences even when the developer announces one date for the wider release.
