Fnatic beat LOUD 3–2 to win VCT LOCK//IN

Fnatic defeated LOUD 3–2 in the VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo final on March 4, 2023. After winning the first two maps and losing the next two, Fnatic recovered from an 11–3 deficit on Icebox to close the decider 14–12.

Road to the final

The 32-team event used single elimination. Fnatic reached the final without dropping a map, beating Sentinels, FURIA, 100 Thieves and Natus Vincere. LOUD defeated Gen.G, Karmine Corp, NRG and DRX. The home crowd backed the reigning world champion against an EMEA roster still seeking its first international VALORANT trophy.

Fnatic vs LOUD LOCK//IN final: how the series unfolded

Fnatic took Ascent 13–8 and Fracture 13–7 before LOUD changed the match with a 13–9 win on Split and a 13–8 win on Lotus. Icebox appeared finished when LOUD led 11–3. Fnatic constructed eight straight rounds, reached overtime after both sides traded late regulation scores, and won the final two rounds for 14–12.

The decisive detail

The comeback depended on patience around the B site and disciplined late-round trading. Fnatic stopped treating the score as permission to force hero plays. Chronicle and Leo preserved utility for the final contacts, while Boaster’s calling repeatedly found a safe next step. LOUD still reached match point, but could not restore the earlier defensive rhythm.

Why the result still matters

LOCK//IN gave Fnatic its first international VCT title and began a year in which the team also won Masters Tokyo. The final remains a reference point because momentum reversed twice: Fnatic built a 2–0 lead, LOUD levelled the series, and Fnatic escaped a near-complete collapse in the deciding map.
