Diablo IV Season 9, Sins of the Horadrim, began on July 1, 2025. Its seasonal quest sent players to investigate Horadric secrets with Donan’s estranged pupil Bryona and placed a modular spell system at the centre of character progression.

Diablo IV Sins of the Horadrim: what arrived

Horadric Spellcraft combines a Catalyst, an Infusion and Arcana. The Catalyst defines the spell’s main effect, the Infusion changes its damage type or behaviour, and Arcana add modifiers. Horadric Strongrooms appear inside Nightmare Dungeons as timed chambers with escalating choices and rewards. Escalating Nightmares chain three dungeons together and can culminate in a stronger version of Astaroth.

How the update changes play

The spell structure creates a second build layer without replacing class skills. Players can attach a crafted effect to an existing ability, then tune how it triggers and scales. Strongrooms reward deliberate risk because activating pillars increases both difficulty and the eventual chest quality. The dungeon revisions also mattered beyond the season: Blizzard described several Nightmare Dungeon changes as permanent additions.

What players should know

Seasonal powers require a seasonal character and completion of the introductory quest. Access to some endgame features still depends on difficulty and progression. The original season also included balance changes, Reliquary rewards and updates that are separate from the permanent dungeon work, so not every Season 9 reward persists after the season ends.

This report describes the confirmed release at the stated date. Live games may change through hotfixes, rotations and later seasons, so an archived feature should not be treated as permanently available in every current playlist.
