Nightreign 1.02 Adds Two-Player Expeditions
Elden Ring Nightreign Patch 1.02 introduces two-player Expeditions with player-count scaling and expands relic filtering, presets and menus. Read the verified.
Elden Ring Nightreign Patch 1.02 added a long-requested middle ground between solo play and a three-person group: official two-player Expeditions. The game now adjusts balance to the selected number of players instead of forcing a duo to add a random third teammate.
What changed
The Expedition Type setting was renamed Number of Players, and a group can select two before departure. Bandai Namco stated that game balance adjusts to the current player count. Patch 1.02 also expanded relic-effect filters, raised the number of registered relic presets to 100, added sell and favourite functions in reward and purchasing menus, and delivered interface and bug fixes.
Why the update matters
Duo support changes both coordination and recovery. Two players can plan roles and voice communication without filling the last slot, but every knockdown carries more pressure because only one ally remains available to revive. Scaling is essential: simply using three-player enemy values would turn the option into a challenge modifier rather than a supported party size.
What players should check next
Players should confirm Number of Players before commencing an Expedition because the game remembers matchmaking settings. Relic filters and extra presets are useful for keeping character-specific plans organised, but they do not replace checking the actual effects before departure. Online play requires the current regulation data.
The confirmed notes describe the shipped feature set, not a promise about the long-term metagame. Players should verify the current client version before applying old lineups, build advice or matchmaking assumptions. Later hotfixes can change balance without changing the original purpose of the update.
