Vitality beat The MongolZ to win Austin Major 2025
Vitality beat The MongolZ 2-1 in the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 final, recovering from Mirage to secure the CS2 Major and $500,000. Analysis. Details.
Team Vitality defeated The MongolZ 2-1 on June 22 to win the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. The MongolZ took Mirage, but Vitality answered with a 13-4 victory on Dust2 and completed the comeback on the deciding map.
The champions earned $500,000 from the tournament’s $1.25 million prize pool. More importantly, they converted a dominant stretch of form into the title that carries the highest competitive weight in Counter-Strike.
Mirage did not define the series
The MongolZ entered the final as more than a novelty story and proved it immediately by winning the opening map. Taking an opponent’s confidence pick can change the emotional temperature of a best-of-three, especially when the favourite has little room left for experimentation.
Vitality’s 13-4 response on Dust2 prevented that pressure from becoming panic. A lopsided second map does not erase the opener, but it restores choice: the series reaches the decider with both teams forced to solve the present map rather than protect an earlier lead.
For analysts, the reset between maps is as important as the highlight rounds. Our CS2 mid-round reset guide uses the same principle at a smaller scale: confirm the information that still exists, discard the assumptions that no longer do, and give the next decision a clear owner.
The MongolZ made history despite the loss
The MongolZ’s run placed a Mongolian team in a Major grand final and demonstrated that their earlier international results were not an isolated upset. They lost the trophy match, but their route through the bracket changed the competitive expectations attached to the roster.
Vitality, meanwhile, finished the job expected of a tournament favourite. That sounds simple only after the fact. Major playoffs compress preparation, map vetoes and individual form into single-elimination series where one poor day ends the run.
