Cologne Major 2026 set a Counter-Strike audience record
The Cologne Major 2026 viewership record passed 100 million hours watched and 2.75 million peak viewers as Falcons won inside the packed LANXESS Arena.
The Cologne Major 2026 viewership record made the tournament larger than its Falcons–FURIA final. ESL reported more than 100 million hours watched and a peak above 2.75 million viewers, calling it the most-watched Counter-Strike tournament to date.
A Major built across three stages
The audience did not arrive only for championship Sunday. Thirty-two teams played through Stages 1, 2 and 3 before eight reached the LANXESS Arena playoffs. The structure created repeated elimination matches, including BIG’s 0–12 recovery against NRG and the 2–2 Stage 3 series that sent G2, BetBoom and 9z into the final bracket.
Cologne Major 2026 viewership record in context
Hours watched measure accumulated attention across the full broadcast, while peak viewers capture the largest simultaneous audience. Passing 100 million hours shows that the event held attention across its long format; exceeding 2.75 million at peak shows the final phase could also create a single global appointment. The two measures describe different strengths and should not be treated as interchangeable.
The live audience mattered too
ESL said the sold-out LANXESS Arena and Palladium welcomed 67,000 fans from more than 75 countries. Stage 3 included a live audience for the first time in IEM Cologne history, extending the in-person event before the final bracket. That made the Major a venue story as well as a broadcast result.
What the record does not guarantee
One record does not mean every future event will automatically grow. Cologne combined a ten-year return of the Major to an iconic venue, first-time finalists, NiKo’s pursuit of a missing trophy and a deep international field. Future organisers can reproduce the production discipline and accessible schedule, but they cannot manufacture the same competitive story in advance.
