FromSoftware released Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree on June 21, 2024. The expansion sends the Tarnished into the Realm of Shadow, a separate land tied to Miquella and concealed from the Lands Between.

Shadow of the Erdtree: confirmed details

Access requires ownership of Elden Ring and defeating Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. The entrance is Miquella’s cocoon in Mohgwyn Palace. Inside, the expansion adds new bosses, dungeons, weapon categories, armor, spells and skills. Scadutree Fragments improve the player’s attack and damage negation within the new realm, while Revered Spirit Ashes strengthen summoned spirits and Torrent there.

What changed for players

The blessing system gives exploration a direct role in difficulty without rewriting the character’s ordinary level. Players who rush from boss to boss leave substantial regional power behind. New weapon families create movesets that can also be carried into the base game, so the expansion broadens existing character builds rather than isolating its rewards.

Availability and lasting context

Shadow of the Erdtree launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the base game required. Patches later adjusted balance and performance. The release remains an expansion, not a standalone title, and progress into its area depends on the two documented boss victories.

This report separates features released on the stated date from later patches and community expectations. Balance values and platform support can change, but the documented release history remains the same.
