Bethesda released Starfield: Shattered Space on September 30, 2024 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game’s first major expansion takes players to Va’ruun’kai after a distress signal leads to the damaged space station The Oracle.

Starfield Shattered Space: confirmed details

The story concentrates on Dazra, capital of the secretive House Va’ruun, after a grav-drive experiment tears open a vortex and devastates the city. Players investigate the disaster, work with competing houses and encounter new weapons, spacesuits and hostile creatures. Access requires the base game and a character who has completed the introductory One Small Step mission.

What changed for players

A single principal location gives the expansion a denser sense of place than Starfield’s normal travel between distant systems. The political conflict also moves House Va’ruun from background mystery to an active society with its own customs and arguments. Combat still uses the base game’s shooting, powers and equipment systems rather than becoming a separate mode.

Availability and lasting context

Shattered Space is a paid expansion and was included with qualifying premium editions and upgrades. Bethesda issued a base-game update alongside launch, but the expansion’s quests and Va’ruun’kai content require ownership. Later patches can alter performance and quest fixes without changing the September 2024 release date.

This report separates features released on the stated date from later patches and community expectations. Balance values and platform support can change, but the documented release history remains the same.
