Chapter 2 continues the free story and expands activity across Arrakis.

Funcom launched the free Dune: Awakening Chapter 2 update on September 9, 2025. It continues the main narrative after the base campaign and broadens the activities available around Arrakis.

Dune Awakening Chapter 2: the confirmed release

The update adds story missions, contracts, dynamic encounters, archetype-specific armor and character recustomization. Patch 1.2.0.0 also brought broader adjustments, while the separate Lost Harvest DLC launched alongside it with its own story and vehicle content.

What changes for players

The free chapter gives established characters reasons to revisit social hubs and contested routes instead of reserving narrative progress for paid DLC. New encounters make travel less predictable, while archetype armor adds goals that connect character identity to equipment rather than only to a skill tree.

Availability and next steps

Chapter 2 and The Lost Harvest are separate products despite arriving together. Players can follow the free story without buying the DLC, while DLC ownership does not remove the survival game’s normal progression requirements. Current server rules and Deep Desert behavior should be checked against later patch notes.

This report records the product and patch state at publication. Later hotfixes, storefront changes and balance updates may alter individual details without changing the original release history. We distinguish launch content from separately sold items, later plans and community expectations so that readers can verify what was actually available.
