Helldivers 2: Heart of Democracy went live on May 20, 2025 and brought the Illuminate assault to Super Earth itself. Arrowhead’s update introduced urban missions, allied SEAF soldiers, new enemy threats and heavier battlefield support.

Helldivers 2 Heart of Democracy: what changed

Missions take place across city streets rather than the game’s usual frontier terrain. Helldivers can fight beside active Super Earth Armed Forces units while Illuminate forces deploy Voteless, elevated Overseers and the large hovering Leviathan. The update also expanded the use of artillery emplacements during the defence campaign.

Why it matters

Urban blocks change line of sight, reinforcement routes and the value of explosive weapons. Cover is more structured, but narrow roads can turn a poorly placed strike into a squad problem. Friendly SEAF troops make the battlefield feel populated while creating another reason to identify targets before firing.

What players should check

Squads should carry answers for crowds, armoured targets and airborne threats instead of building around one enemy type. Players returning after a break should read the current balance notes because weapon performance changed in surrounding updates. The live Galactic War can move on even when the update’s missions remain part of its history.

The release information above describes confirmed content at publication. Later hotfixes can adjust balance or availability, so players should verify the current build before treating an older detail as permanent.

Platform rollout, account requirements and live-event timing can differ from the headline feature list. Check the official page linked below when returning after a long break.
