The VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins begin on August 6, 2026, with 12 teams competing for four places in the playoffs. Eight VCT EMEA sides that did not qualify directly from the group stage will meet four Challenger teams in a double-elimination bracket, giving the tier-two qualifiers a route toward the Barcelona Finals and VALORANT Champions.

Riot Games scheduled the Play-Ins across two weeks, from August 6–16. Each show day will feature two best-of-three series, with the first week running Thursday through Sunday and the second expanding to Wednesday through Sunday.

How the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins bracket works

The bracket does not give every entrant the same starting position. Challenger teams enter in the first round of the upper bracket. VCT EMEA teams that finished third or fourth in their group receive a bye into upper-bracket round two, while the remaining league teams begin alongside the qualifiers.

The eight VCT teams in the Play-Ins are FUT Esports, Gentle Mates, Natus Vincere, PCIFIC Esports, Team Heretics, Eternal Fire, Fnatic and GIANTX. Enterprise Esports, REBORN and Joblife qualified through Challengers EMEA Stage 3, while Eintracht Frankfurt claimed the Last Chance place.

The current Play-In bracket opens with GIANTX against Eintracht Frankfurt and NAVI against Joblife on August 6. PCIFIC faces REBORN and Fnatic meets Enterprise on August 7. FUT, Eternal Fire, Team Heretics and Gentle Mates wait in the next upper-bracket round.

That structure rewards group-stage performance without closing the door on teams arriving from Challengers. According to Riot’s official Stage 2 format announcement, four Play-In teams will advance.

The upper bracket offers a cleaner route, but the lower bracket keeps an early defeat from ending a team’s run. The practical cost of dropping down is preparation time: lower-bracket teams must reveal more maps, play more series and recover with less room to adjust.

Four playoff places lead to Berlin and Barcelona

The four Play-In survivors will join four direct group-stage qualifiers in another double-elimination playoff bracket. Those matches are scheduled for August 20–23 on the Arena Stage in Berlin, with the winners moving on to the Barcelona Finals.

Barcelona will host the final three days from August 28–30. Friday includes the upper-bracket final, Saturday the lower-bracket final, and Sunday a best-of-five grand final. The finalists qualify for Champions, while EMEA’s remaining Champions places are decided through Championship Points.

That makes every Play-In series relevant beyond the immediate bracket. A Challenger team is not entering a side event; it is entering the same qualification path that can end at Champions. The first test will be whether those teams can preserve their own map identity while preparing for opponents with a full VCT group stage of recent footage.

What to watch when the Play-Ins start

Map depth should matter more as the lower bracket develops. Teams with one dominant composition or comfort map can win an opener, but repeated best-of-three series expose narrow preparation quickly.
