CS2 Premier Season 5 adds Cache and reworks C4 damage
CS2 Premier Season 5 brings Cache into Active Duty, removes Overpass and changes how C4 blast damage travels through official defusal maps in ranked play.
CS2 Premier Season 5 began on July 8 with Cache entering the Active Duty map pool and Overpass leaving it. Valve also redesigned C4 explosion damage across every official defusal map, changing how the blast travels around walls and corners.
The update combines a ranked-season reset with a meaningful competitive map change. It also adds community maps and new Armory collections, but Cache and the C4 system have the clearest effect on match preparation.
CS2 Premier Season 5 brings Cache back to Active Duty
Valve’s official CS2 news feed confirms that Cache replaced Overpass. Teams now need current defaults, utility and rotation protocols for Cache rather than relying on older versions of the map.
A pool change affects more than one veto slot. Removing Overpass can free a permanent ban, while adding Cache forces teams to decide whether to learn it immediately or accept a new weakness. Our map veto preparation guide shows how one change can alter an entire best-of-three plan.
Valve also added Boulder, Fachwerk and Shelter to Competitive, Casual and Deathmatch. Debris and El Dorado joined Wingman, while Warden, Stronghold, Alpine and Sanctum left the available modes.
C4 damage now follows a simulated shockwave
The new C4 system uses precomputed simulation values baked into each official defusal map. Damage expands outward from the bomb instead of applying instantly, and geometry can reduce the blast. Valve followed the launch with a July 9 fix that removed a map-wide minimum point of damage and corrected calculations near map-area boundaries.
The practical lesson is that old survival estimates may be wrong. Players must relearn which walls provide protection and how much health is required at specific positions. A health-bar preview appears when the bomb becomes audible, offering live feedback before detonation.
These changes also affect post-plant communication. A player saving a rifle needs a reliable exit call, while teammates closer to the site need to know whether a corner genuinely blocks the blast. The same ownership principle appears in our article on CS2 utility handoffs: the team should know who is responsible before the urgent moment arrives.
