CS2 removes map-wide minimum C4 damage in July 9 fix

Valve’s CS2 July 9 update removes unintended map-wide minimum C4 damage, fixes area-boundary calculations and increases force on dropped weapons. Analysis.

Valve removed the unintended one-point minimum damage that the revised Counter-Strike 2 bomb explosion could apply anywhere on a map in a July 9, 2026 update. The hotfix also corrected damage calculations near boundaries between map areas and made the blast exert more force on dropped weapons.

The correction arrived one day after Season 5 introduced a simulated C4 blast wave designed to spread from the bombsite, lose force around corners and respect walls.

The fix restores the logic of safe distance

The Season 5 system replaced a simpler radius calculation with precomputed simulation values embedded in official defusal maps. Valve’s description presented survival as a question of distance, cover and pathing. A guaranteed point of damage across the entire map cut against that logic, even if the health loss was small.

Removing the minimum matters most in edge cases. A player preserving a low-health weapon far from the site should not take damage merely because the bomb detonated. The boundary fix is equally important because simulated areas need consistent transitions; an incorrect calculation near an edge could make two apparently similar positions produce different outcomes.

Teams should not turn the hotfix into a universal save chart. Every official map carries its own compiled blast values, and walls or corners can change exposure. The useful response is to test common exits on the live build and attach the result to the team’s economy rules. Our mid-round reset framework helps separate the current information from assumptions carried over from the previous system.

Dropped weapons now react more strongly

The same patch increased the physical force applied to dropped weapons by the new explosion. That is mainly a presentation and retrieval detail, but it can affect where equipment settles after the round. Players reviewing a post-round scene should not assume a weapon remained exactly where it was dropped.

Valve also fixed a missing gold tint on part of Season medals, corrected a scoreboard that failed to update while open, adjusted the scraped appearance of the Sniper Ahead sticker and shipped stability improvements. The full list is available on the official update page.
