Nioh 3 Hell Rising launched August 18 with a new open field set in Edo during the Keian period. The expansion turns the castle town into a Crucible-stricken battlefield occupied by yokai, rebels and foreign alchemists.

Nioh 3 Hell Rising: confirmed details

New hoko-and-shield sets support blocking while attacking with a short spear or throwing the shield. Yagyu Jubei appears among the new opponents. Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls provide repeatable battles and build effects, while the third playthrough, Enlightened One’s Journey, adds random enemy Curses and divine Grace effects.

What changes for players

A shield changes defense from a universal timing tool into part of a weapon identity. Random Curses increase risk in the new difficulty while attaching stronger rewards to affected enemies. Picture Scroll variation gives finished builds another test beyond repeating the same campaign encounters.

Timing and wider context

Hell Rising requires the Nioh 3 base game and access to a specified point in its campaign. It is also included in the Season Pass and Digital Deluxe Edition, so existing owners should check entitlements before buying the DLC separately.

The feature list and timing above reflect the developer’s announcement published on August 18, 2026. Future hotfixes can adjust balance or availability, so live values should be checked against the current client.
