Valheim 1.0 remains scheduled for September, and Iron Gate says the team is now fixing final bugs and preparing the release build. The studio again recommends starting a new playthrough for the intended complete experience, although it has published an FAQ for players who want to take an existing character toward the Deep North.

Valheim 1.0: confirmed details

The August 20 development note does not announce an exact September day or a surprise test branch. It points players to the existing 1.0 FAQ and confirms that a new trailer will premiere around Gamescom, where Iron Gate will also appear in Cologne. The long-running community Build of the Month feature is ending with Early Access.

What changes for players

The fresh-world recommendation matters because biome generation and progression gates can behave differently in an old save. Players who preserve a veteran world should back it up and read the FAQ before travelling into unexplored northern territory. A September window narrows preparation time without replacing an exact launch date.

Timing and wider context

Valheim entered Steam Early Access in February 2021, so version 1.0 closes a development period of more than five years. Iron Gate has not said that existing characters will be deleted, and recommending a new run is not the same as declaring old saves unsupported.

The feature list and timing above reflect the developer’s announcement published on August 20, 2026. Future hotfixes can adjust balance or availability, so live values should be checked against the current client.

For Valheim, the practical checkpoint is the live client: confirm the installed version, platform notes and regional rollout before relying on a scheduled feature. Store availability, maintenance windows and certification can create timing differences even when the developer announces one date for the wider release.

He has a particular interest in RPG economies, tactical combat and performance problems that alter mechanical feel. Every verdict is written for a specific player rather than an imaginary universal audience.
