Stellaris 4.5 Cygnus Open Beta Update 6 changes Hedonist population growth after the bonus could scale without a useful ceiling. The revised contribution now depends on the share of Hedonists on a colony and tops out at 30%, while free housing, amenities and a healthy Consumer Goods supply become requirements.

Stellaris 4.5: confirmed details

Hedonists now produce Unity and consume some Consumer Goods regardless of living standard, and Pleasure Seekers begin with Civilian Industries instead of Holo-Theatres. Branch Offices cost 75 Influence plus five per jump rather than an unintended 75 per jump. Update 6 also corrects automated fleet alerts, Terravore drone transfers and several orbital and empire interactions.

What changes for players

The population cap removes an exponential advantage that could dominate a long campaign. More reasonable distance pricing makes remote Branch Offices expensive without making them practically impossible. Players testing Update 5 starbase layouts should also review Update 6 because the branch contains continuing balance and bug changes, not one frozen preview.

Timing and wider context

Cygnus remains an opt-in beta, so save compatibility, mods and numerical values can change before the stable 4.5 release. Backing up a campaign is especially important when testing economy and population adjustments that operate across many colonies.

The feature list and timing above reflect the developer’s announcement published on August 20, 2026. Future hotfixes can adjust balance or availability, so live values should be checked against the current client.

For Stellaris, the practical checkpoint is the live client: confirm the installed version, platform notes and regional rollout before relying on a scheduled feature. Store availability, maintenance windows and certification can create timing differences even when the developer announces one date for the wider release.
